My students need materials to help them understand these concepts and begin a study of oceanography/meteorology.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Rusert's classroom raised $329
This project is fully funded
Having never been to an ocean make it very difficult for my 7th and 8th grade science students from rural Arkansas to understand concepts relating to marine life, oceanology, meteorology and topography of the ocean. This trip will provide real hands-on learning opportunities for our students. Most of the family income comes from agriculture (timber, chickens, or cattle) resulting in our school having 72% of the students receiving free lunches.
The family income for our students does not allow for extra spending for trips to give children the background knowledge for learning about the ocean. This project will provide the foundation for educational growth and career planning.
The requested materials will provide students the background knowledge to help them understand oceanography/meteorology.
We would like to take 25 students to the Coastal Science Camp at the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It is a three day camp that will provide the real life learning needed by these students from the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas. While there, they will take digital pictures and videos. Upon their return to campus, they will use the information they gather to create a video presentation for other classes, the school board, and anyone else. This will also be used as an evaluative tool to document that learning has taken place. After receiving the materials, we hope to request funding for the trip.
"Ocean Waves To Arkansas" is a project that will benefit our current students, as well as future classes, and bring learning about the ocean to the Ouachita Mountain region. Our kids need your help.
