This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My art room is a place where students can learn and have fun while making art. They do not always feel successful in their classroom and struggle every day to learn other academic subjects. But in art, they can feel good about themselves, boost self-esteem, and be proud of something they made!
My students come from high poverty, low income families.
They go to a high poverty, low income Title I school. most of the kids do not get to draw or paint in their regular classroom or at home. Art gives balance to their lives and helps them feel love for school. The students that I work with really need art in their lives. They need to feel hope for their success in the future. Making something on their own in art makes them feel successful and proud. Please help me bring art to a great group of students! Thank You!
My Project
I want to bring the art of the ocean and sea creatures to my students with this project! They will create a realistic artwork of jellyfish and the ocean by using colored chalks and pastels. They will learn about value (lights and darks), and some basic blending techniques. Students in the Kindergarten class will use the tissue paper to make the tentacles and the oil pastels to draw coral, ocean floor, fishies, etc.
Students will learn about the elements and principles of art and science at the same time. I will also show some visual pics (books, photographs) of real jellyfish so the students can make the art more realistic. Chalks and oil pastels are really messy but a lot of fun to work with. You can get vibrant colors which is exciting for any artist. Thanks for helping support the arts and this project!!
The Ocean Jellyfish Art Project will make a difference in the lives of my students because they will be able to create their own artwork in a positive, fun learning environment.
Students will learn a little about science (the ocean and its creatures) while learning about art elements and techniques. They will be able to choose colors and learn about blending. Students will problem solve and learn critical thinking skills when incorporating movement, balance, and composition.
