Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are concrete learners that struggle with the abstract nature of dance making. My students are however super creative and love to build their own obstacle courses that challenge their gross motor skills and build their core strength. Students will arrange the obstacles in a particular order and learn the gross motor skills needed to successfully complete each obstacles.
Once students have mastered the movement and are able to remember the order; we remove the obstacles and voile, the students have a dance!
The beauty of this process is students are engage in a similar choreographic task as famous dance choreographer Doug Varone. For my students on the Autism Spectrum, it is a great way to engage with many aspects of creative dance making and study choreographers through a process of guided discovery that they love.
