This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York, where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
My students have been reading the works of the author Roald Dahl. Some of Dahl's most famous books are "Matilda," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "The BFG." My students enjoy these classic stories and get very excited every time they are a new Roald Dahl title in our class library.
I want to continue fostering this excitement for reading Roald Dahl books, by having all his titles in my classroom library.
I know having all these books would encourage students to read more, which in turn would increase reading comprehension, new vocabulary acquisition, and would also improve student writing.
