Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse group of kids, mostly from low-income families, from different parts of the city. Many students have special needs, and many are are several grades behind in reading and writing. They are just entering middle school, which is simultaneously exciting and terrifying. They are asked to leave their cocoon of elementary school to a world of adult personalities and budding identities. Many of my students are shy, but they are also curious and helpful and open-minded and articulate. They just need help putting those thoughts to paper.
They have interesting stories to tell and I want to help them to tell them.
Writing for most of these students is not a source of pleasure. With structured guidance, I can help them find their writing voices.
My Project
My current classroom printer is on its way out. The drum is failing, and I have the side panels taped up. It is time for a new printer. My students will benefit from an industrial quality printer proven for high volume output and cost-effectiveness.
I will use this printer for Writer's Workshop - students need a reliable printer to help with drafting and publishing a myriad of writing assignments.
