This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school and the NYU Nest Support Project teamed three years ago. In order to create a world that truly accepts its own neurodiversity, this project aims to train teachers and change educational institutions. Being a part of the Nest Project, which emphasizes student strengths, autonomy, inclusive equity, lifelong learning, and a dedication to teamwork, makes us proud. We will have four Nest classrooms the following year. Every instructor encourages students to advocate for themselves. We are dedicated to meeting each student's particular and distinct needs.
We want to respect autistic neurotypes by bringing about a fundamental change in how we think about classroom management.
Our pupils could feel overloaded with information. We model coping mechanisms and teach and encourage self-awareness. The first question a Nest instructor asks when observing behavioral problems is whether the student's sensory demands are being satisfied.
Our NYU collaborators and facilitators have urged us to construct the foundation for a sensory area because our school is rapidly expanding into a full Nest School. Hundreds of children will be able to rest, regroup, relax, settle down, or obtain the sensory stimulation they need in this area. All students' self-control and management abilities will be supported in this room. For pupils who are looking for vestibular input, this swing is crucial. Many students will benefit from the sensory room by avoiding the potentially stressful and draining meltdowns.
Thank you for helping our school support our neurodivergent learners as well as all learners.
