Nutrition For Kindergarten

My students a set of Nonfiction Sight-Word Readers, puzzles, teaching cards, a theme book library and more to help teach and emphasis the importance of nutrition.

My Students

It is hard to be healthy in this time and age of FAST FOOD. I want teaching good nutrition to be easy to grasp with hands on learning centers that make learning fun and come to life. I want the students excited about learning how to become a healthy life long learner.

I am a Kindergarten teacher in an inner city Title one school in Nashville, TN.

I currently am responsible for 29 students. I have18 Hispanic students, 1 Chinese student, 2 students with a form of autism, and 8 other geographic students. My class maybe HUGE and without an assistant but they are a WONDERFUL and LOVING group of kids that want to learn. All of my students are in the free or reduced lunch program. They come from a very low economic area. That does not stop my students from desiring to become great readers and learners. Being inner city children they are lacking with vocabulary that other students their age may know or have advantage of learning. They need and desire hands on approaches to make their learning come to life and not paper worksheets to teach the academic vocabulary and standards set forth by the state. Every other week we maybe put on locked down because of something happening in the neighborhood around the school. This is their life.

My Project

I am asking for your help to reach my students. They need hands on approaches to grasp the understanding of what nutrition and being healthy is. The homes they come from lack in books. I want readers that they can not only read in the classroom but take home and read to their parents. I want a take home bag that each night a different student can take home and show their parents what they are learning at school. Doing word sorts is part of our daily curriculum. I want to take it from paper to magnets that they can do in a center and see the colors of different fruit and vegetables and allow it to come to life. I want to take these magnets and add to their sight words to read sentences about being healthy and living a healthy life. What 5 year old does not like puzzles. I want them to see what is a healthy breakfast. My students that come to school come in with a bag of potato chips and a coke for breakfast. I want them to learn why this is not the best thing to eat.

The materials I am asking you to purchase for my classroom will not only help the 29 students God has given me to guide and teach this year but they are materials that I can use for many years to come.

I know I make a difference in so many students every year. I could not make this difference without your support and help. Please donate to my wonderful group of students and get your family and friends to help this cause. These babies deserve a break and a foundation in the right direction.
