Help me give my students a chance to read the 2020 Nutmeg nominees, and then vote on their favorite book.

My Students
The Title I community school I teach at is in one of the roughest areas in a city in Connecticut. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. The vast majority of them live in non-traditional homes, many deal with poverty, and more than a few have disabilities. Some of my students have had parents or other close relatives in jail, and there is a very high crime rate in their neighborhoods, including shootings.
Yet even with these hardships, all of my students have one thing going for them - they all yearn to learn.
Even the children who act extremely tough on the outside swell with pride when they master something new in class. Our school is often their safe place, and I believe a big part of my job is to make it a place where they begin to learn how to overcome their hardships.
My Project
The Nutmeg Award is a Connecticut book award where CHILDREN actually vote on their favorite book and decide the winner. For the past two years the wonderful DonorsChoose community has generously paid for the nominated books, and my students have LOVED reading the books, keeping track of their favorite, casting their vote, and waiting for the statewide announcement of the winner.
My other classes have so enjoyed this experience that I'd like to repeat it with this year's class for the 2020 Nutmeg Award, but we need the nominated books!
I'm also excited that the books are not only highly rated, but, as always, quite diverse. They cover topics that include autism, female empowerment, multicultural appreciation, 1960's civil rights, biographies of children, science, nature, history, poetry, fantasy, and more! I've also requested a few books related to past Nutmeg nominees, which were so popular in my classroom that they were literally "read to death"!
I truly appreciate all the books and other materials that you've graciously donated to my classroom in the past. In fact, every time I open a package it allows me to give my students a life lesson on generosity. Thank you in advance for continuing to help build our classroom library, and giving my inner-city students their chance to vote for the 2020 Nutmeg Award!
