Nurturing Vulnerable Populations: Providing Health and Hygiene Essentials
Help me give my students health, hygiene and food essentials to be better equipped to handle the rigors and challenges of school each day. Warm clothes will help students brave the cold Boston weather.
My students are capable, strong, resilient, motivated and diverse. My students meet daily life challenges and adversities that have the potential to derail and disrupt their learning and growth. But they have met these challenges with grit, determination and passion.
My students inspire others through their ability to try new things, engage in self-reflection and overcome obstacles to become stronger and healthier.
Despite a lack of privilege and opportunity, as compared with higher income schools and communities, my students rise to the high expectations we place on them and fight for a chance to be leaders, innovators and strong, confident role models in their communities.
My students have faced challenges such as poverty, neglect, abuse, homelessness and family separation. However, in the face of these challenges, my students still try their best to come to school each day, complete work to their full potential and form relationships with peers and adults.
My Project
The students in our community come to school each day fighting overwhelming odds in order to access and receive the education they deserve. Many students have, or are currently, experiencing homeless, poverty and community violence.
Our wish for this project is that warm clothes, essential hygiene products and healthy snacks will provide students with the care and nurturing they need to feel capable and successful in school.
Many families are up against insurmountable odds and are facing difficult situations in which they cannot afford to provide their children with such essentials. If students at baseline are well-fed, warm and clean, we believe more of their energy and attention can be spent towards academics as opposed to basic living needs and safety.
