FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Johnson's classroom raised $417
This project is fully funded
One of the most neglected multiple intelligences in the classroom are the naturalists, possessing strong interest and knowledge in the environment/nature. Out of 60 classrooms within my school, all but 10 or less have any sort of flora/animal life, in contrast to the number of students that convey interest in plants and animals.
I currently teach a second grade class, comprised of twenty-four budding scientists that can't keep their hands and eyes off of the fishes, frogs, and plants we have in our class. Having pets and plants in the room allow students to have hands-on experience and make real-life applications. Unfortunately, budget constraints do not allow for further chances of observations and experiences to foster their curiosities.
My proposal is simple. I would like to purchase more animals such as lizards, turtles, hermit crabs, hamsters, butterflies, meal worms, and whatever else is allowed in a school, and appropriate equipment to set-up their natural habitats, to bring "life" into our science curriculum. If this becomes a reality, I can open up my classroom to other classes to serve as a science "museum."
