Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a public school located on the southwest side of our city. The parents and members of our community are very involved with our school, the students' education, and are very supportive of all of the teachers. Our school staff and parents have high expectations for all of the students and we take pride in our student's accomplishments. The kindergarten students are active participants in all of our school activities and are eager to learn and explore while they are in school.

My Project

An organized and inviting library complete with a multitude of engaging books is the ultimate resource for beginning readers. I want my students to be able to choose books that are “just right” for them. I believe that if a child feels confident looking at books, they will become more apt to read independently and for enjoyment. Our classroom library is in dire need of an update to provide students with a clearer view of available genres, authors, and reading levels. Having a larger space with more book storage including labeled bins will allow students to choose books from a variety of interesting topics. We want to continue to nurture a love of reading.
