My Students
My students need some new materials for our outdoor nature trail, and learning lab. Our school is very unique in that we have multiple acres that we are able to use as outdoor learning spaces. We have a large wooded area, a large butterfly garden area and a marsh.
The wooded area has a nature trail that has multiple bird houses and owl boxes.
We would like to include the camera inside one of the bird’s homes. The camera will enlarge the image of the birds and transmit it to a computer in the school. The students will be able to observe the birds during various weather conditions. The camera would allow students to see inside the house and learn more about how birds survive
My Project
The butterfly garden has multiple flowers that attract butterflies. In the fall we would like to collect the caterpillars and watch the life cycle of the butterfly has they grow and change. If we receive the grant we will be able to use the butterfly farm inside the classroom to watch the process. The marsh is another area that attracts birds and insects. With the insect box we would be able to observe and name the insects that we may possibly see in the marsh area or wooded area.
I teach second grade and in our standards we are required to help the students learn and understand the weather process.
I have also included a weather station so we can chart our weather. The students will be able to look at the window clings and read the thermometer. They will be able to tell if they need their jacket or not. Please help us teach the students these basic science lessons with these wonderful new tools.
