Help me give my students the opportunity to hang out with their favorite math buddies from YouTube while learning to count, recognize and compare numbers, and build number sense in preparation for addition, subtraction, and multiplication and division!

My Project
After attending a conference about the importance of talking, drawing, and moving while learning mathematical concepts, I decided to request a starter set of Numberblocks counting manipulatives for my kindergarten classroom. I serve as a teacher in a rural, socio-economically disadvantaged community, so my students know of the Numberblocks from YouTube short videos, but being able to manipulate the actual blocks like on the video, sing the songs, work together with their classmates to determine greater than/equal/less than, and actually HOLD the Numberblocks from their favorite device will be highly engaging. Numberblocks are highly effective in building number sense, laying the foundation for strong addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math fluency. I share a classroom with another teacher, so over 50 students will benefit from this powerful tool to teach number sense, number recognition, analyzing quantities, and so much more. My goals for this project are to directly teach the Numberblocks system with small groups, then gradually release them to independent learning stations where they can manipulate, build, and compare with their classmates. A quick sketch in their math journal will provide reflection on their part, a chance to write about math, and a quick assessment to show their progress towards mastery. They always have the opportunity to read their math writing in the Author's Chair, which is very motivating. My students are the most kind, gentle, loving spirits, and I am certain they will take care of these super cool school tools if you are inclined to assist our class. Thank you for your consideration!
