Hi! First of all, thanks for taking time to read my proposal. I'm still blown away by caring people who help make classrooms across the United States more interesting and places where kids love to learn! As a second-year teacher with few resources, I've had three proposals that have been funded so far, and I can't tell you what it did for us--we simply wouldn't have gotten the resources without the donors! My students adore the fact that someone really cared about our classroom--so thanks to you who make a difference! Now, to tell you a little about my classroom...my fourth grade class has 16 energetic students; all live in a small, rural community. Amazingly, our entire school has only 120 students, so we are an extremely close-knit school. Well over half of my students live in low-income households. Although we are a high-need school, there is no other place I'd rather be!

One of my elementary school teachers made a real difference in my life--she taught me to LOVE reading. So this is also my goal--I want to reach as many kids as I can through literature. Not just basal readers, mind you--my students have already read Stone Fox, Charlotte's Web, Sarah, Plain and Tall this year. (I must mention that 2 of these classroom sets were purchased through Donor's Choose.) They absolutely loved them! They are asking for more books! So here I am asking again! I want to read "Number the Stars" with my class. This book is a wonderful piece of children's literature because it teaches so much about history, friendships, helping others, compassion, and so much more. I can't wait to get started!

21 books, a literature guide, and the book on CD (which is great for helping those who have missed a day or two and need to catch up on reading) will be a precious asset to our class. We can use these books until they wear out. You may notice that I'm asking for a few extra books, and I'll tell you why. Sometimes a student loves a book so much and can't afford to buy one--so I just give them one. One of my teachers did this for me--and I'll never forget it. I remember reading a borrowed copy of "Little Women" until my teacher just gave it to me. I still have it.

Again, thanks for considering this proposal. My proposals are from the heart; they are meaningful because so much thought goes into what I want to present to my class. Together, we can change lives...I know we can, because I already have!
