This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten students at a school in the Bronx. I work in a Title One school with a variety of levels and needs in one classroom, including English Language Learners. Some of us are in school for the very first time, while some of us were previously in pre-k.

My classroom is a place where students interact with each other to learn and grow.

We are very creative, love to read books, and like to use a wide variety of sensory materials to learn our numbers and letters! Our favorite book is Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes. We always try our best to succeed and never give up!

My Project

I am requesting math manipulatives to help my students master essential math skills. Kindergarten students have a difficult time understanding math concepts when they don't have visuals, especially base 10 numbers. By having magnetic ten frames students can visually see ways to break down numbers 1-10. They will help students practice counting, subtracting and adding.

Having visuals is essential for students to understand complicated math concepts.

Learning how to break down numbers builds a foundation for math they will learn as they get older. That is why having these math manipulatives is essential.

Math manipulatives such as the magnetic ten frames that I am requesting can make learning easier, more playful, and more engaging.
