Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are not your average students, yet they are. They are the ones who sat in the back of the classroom and were disruptive. Or they were the quiet, absent ones with school anxiety. They skipped school due to parents needing a sitter for a younger sibling when they went to work, or they just never connected with teachers.
I teach at a continuation high school.
The only thing all the kids have in common is they are behind in credits. Otherwise, each of their stories of how they got behind is different.
They need attention. They need cajoling. They need laughter. They need loving.
My Project
NV High School's College and Career Signing Day is a celebration of our high school's seniors who have taken action towards continuing their education and/or career training beyond high school. These seniors have either completed college matriculation or enlisted in the military. Many of our students come to our continuation high school unsure if they will even graduate high school, so it's quite a spectacular achievement to see them actively pursuing education and training beyond graduation.
Our campus is a 1:1 Chromebook campus, so many of our students will lose their only home access to a computer once they graduate high school.
The Chromebooks and printers donated through this project will be gifted to two graduating seniors who are pursuing college after high school in order to help them succeed in their education. Having home access to a computer and printer will provide these future college students with the opportunity to take classes online, print assignments from home, and better balance their school workload.
