Now You See Me- Look What We Can Do!

I need a portable laptop with quality recording and webcam capabilities for the entirety of this year. I do not have the technology I need to be able to create or interact live and virtually.

My Students

My students are primarily from low-income households and are underachieving- mostly due to life circumstances beyond their control. This school is in the top 10% in our state for diversity and the top 5% for low-income. We also house the largest English Language Learners population in our city. I teach elementary music and therefore have the privilege to reach every student in our elementary school! I am constantly learning about the rest of their school days to integrate and support through my music lessons. I have been able to enhance our family involvement in school through music programming, and have advocated for our underachieving students to receive all their allotted music time (as that was not the case when I arrived). I absolutely love my job and I love working with these families! I am currently working on my Master's of Education in Integrated Curriculum and Teacher Leadership. This time of pandemic has increased the need for portable technology appropriate for live music classes, recording music performance, and audio editing.

My Project

I am currently in a Masters of Education program for Integrated Curriculum. I am also teaching music virtually through the Canvas platform. Live and recorded lessons are created from scratch for my whole school (K-5), plus I am on a music team with the district. It has been very difficult to accomplish all these goals with limited technology. I have to be able to go between buildings pretty often, so I need portable technology with camera, mic, and production capabilities for live sessions!

I will use the Apple Mac laptop to continue to create integrated music lessons that help students have meaningful learning and growth!

The software on Apples allow me to help students create their own music- while we are separated in distance learning. I can easily edit and produce student ideas/musical works into group music projects. This will allow students to continue the "creating, and collaborating" goals for music- which right now are very hard to do distantly. Students will be able to see my lessons better and engage with me virtually since this laptop has a quality webcam!

I also need better technology to implement my Graduate Course work. I am working on writing integrated music lessons to support their reading, math, history, and science. Somehow, this has to be incorporated into the age of teaching through the internet! Having this laptop will allow me to navigate their other CORE lessons and make direct connections in their music lessons. The quality programming will also allow me to write lessons more effectively that directly influence what I am able to deliver to my students daily. Integrated music lessons will help students continue to grow in all subject areas; especially during this time of distance learning!
