When you come into my classroom, you will see third grade children who are willing and eager to learn, even though the challenges and responsibilities they face outside of school are more than they should have. My school has a 76% free and reduced school lunch price and even though they have challenges every day they come to school hoping to better their lives.
They come to my classroom looking for a chance to be the wide-eyed, curious students they should be.
My students want to be in charge of their learning. They want choices and they want to be challenged. As a past student from this school I made it my goal in life to give these students from my home town the opportunities they may never get outside of the classroom. They motivate me every day to show them how life can be amazing. They show me every day that if you work hard, we can achieve anything. My students will be able to achieve anything.
My Project
StoryWorks is an amazing Scholastic Magazine that combines not only Fiction stories but Nonfiction stories as well into one magazine. My students will get the chance to read multiple genres such as poetry, non-fiction, historical fiction, science fiction from one amazing magazine.
StoryWorks will open the door to showing my students how much fun it could be to pick up magazines and enjoy a good article.
It will help them explore different genres they would normally never choose from the library. I want them to have amazing stories that they can keep and read over and over again. My students need these magazines so that they can take these stories wherever they want and enjoy them repeatedly.
These magazines will help me when I am teaching as well. Students will be able to hold the text in their hands and underline and make comments on them they wouldn't be able to do with a school library book. I want my students to see how all types of reading material can be fun. I want them to enjoy technology but nothing beats a good story you can hold in your hand!
