My Project

Our students impacted by this project are primarily at the beginning of their instrumental music studies. They are extremely excited and motivated to learn songs and make new sounds on their instrument. With mirrors, students will be able to visually assess their own progress and make adjustments with their eyes on how they form their mouth position, place their hands, and adjust their body posture. This will result in decreased frustration when they become stuck and exclaim "I don't get it!"

This is a great way to help engage multiple modes of learning by providing young students with a visual reflection of their progress in an instant, in addition to verbal and written instructions. This classroom set will give everyone in the ensemble access to their own small-sized locker mirror, additionally giving them privacy so they feel more comfortable looking at themselves.

The classroom Plickers cards and storage pockets will help me see more clearly into their learning progress. In instrumental ensembles, the large numbers of students make it difficult for me to assess students individually every day. The Plickers cards enable students to answer multiple-choice questions within seconds of me projecting them on the board. I can then scan their answers with my phone and collect data within the next few seconds. The assessment options are endless! I can use it to survey how confident they feel on their instrument, quiz them on musical term definitions, or get their opinion on what types of music they enjoy. It's amazing how much data-collecting time is saved by using these cards, and it allows much more time for musical instruction. These cards are easy to use and flexible enough to incorporate into all of my K-12 music classes.
