My students are curious, active, smart and creative. The future looks good for us! I teach English and journalism in classes that span all grade levels- 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. We write the school newspaper "The Lion's Roar" and showcase that diversity within our school and community.
My students are busy, active learners that thrive on movement.
They believe in themselves , and full of empowerment, are doing it NOW. This generation learns by doing and is not afraid to jump right in and start "being" a writer, a journalist, a broadcaster, etc...whatever they can imagine themselves doing!
My Project
I purchased a large poster in my classroom titled "I Thought I was the Only One." This poster lists some great novels for students to read "when life ain't easy" (the posters grammar, not mine). It has several books listed and a short summary of each story and how students going through the same situations might be able to connect. Several selections are indeed my favorites as well: Speak, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Fault in our Stars, If I Stay, The Outsiders, to name a few.
It is so important during the angst of being a teenager, that students have books to make them feel connected and okay.
I would like to freshen up my classroom library and have these books on display next to the poster, ready for check-out. Thank you for considering my project! :)
