My Students

My school is located in the south-eastern part of Butler County, Pennsylvania. Our town is rural but growing community. Once a rural town with few businesses, this community has grown due to its location near Pittsburgh.

One of my goals is to meet the needs of all students to enable them to be the best version of themselves.

I teach two English/Language Arts blocks. Both of my classes consist of students of all reading and writing ability levels. In order to meet the needs of all of my students in an ever-changing world, I like to incorporate technology, materials, and books that are on each child’s reading level and engage all learners. My students enjoy a lot of cooperative learning in reading stations and partner work. They are very skilled at working together to support each other.

My Project

My fourth grade students enjoy reading "Island of the Blue Dolphins" as our end of the year novel unit. The girls love the strong female role model and the boys enjoy all of the action. My current copies are falling apart, and I would like to provide my students will novels that are in good condition.

It is important to me to provide a novel for each student to use at school and home.

Many parents support their students by rereading and discussing chapters at home. Students also need their own copy while we read so that they may complete assignments that go along with the novel and our PA Core ELA Standards.
