My Students
Dr. Seuss said it best, "the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." I want my students to go many places and learn many things.
I have 36 precocious fifth grade students as does my 5th grade partner.
All the children devour knowledge and question everything. They thrive on stimulating discussion and blossom in small group activities. They are industrious and creative people who value education and are working on becoming lifelong scholars. They have many wonderful ideas. They are adept at synthesizing information and using their creativity to develop fabulous stories. They cooperate well with one another, working nicely in small collaborative groups and with a partner. I look forward to going to work every day because they are so special. I am lucky that my partner and I work so well together and collaborate often. Our students also work in cooperative groups with fellow students from each other’s classrooms. The children make me think, research and laugh daily. It is a privilege to be a part of their lives and it makes me sad to think that I do not have enough resources to stimulate their minds.
My Project
Having a class set of the book, Running Out Of Time will allow my partner and me to take our students on an adventure. I will be able to foster and nurture a love for reading. Not only will their vocabulary and intellect grow and blossom, but I will be able to nurture people adept at taking on multiple perspectives, understanding the intricacies of ethical decision making as well as realizing the context of any situation impacts the judgment one makes. Our relationships will blossom as we share our experiences and take on this reading adventure.
I want ALL our brilliant 5th grade students to be engaged in reading fabulous books. I want to open up new worlds for them and invite them to take on others' perspectives. I want to take them MANY places.
Gaining these books for our classroom will be invaluable.
With a class set of the novel Running Out Of Time, I can scaffold the adventure our students will undertake. This donation will facilitate better teaching and learning, enabling everyone to experience this novel together. Oh the places they will go!
