My Project

As a relatively new teacher who joined the profession after graduating from ASU during the height of the pandemic, I was so happy to finally have the opportunity to teach in person. My primary goal this year was to create a safe & welcoming classroom environment for my students to return to. I was so ready to finally experience a structured, in-person learning environment at the beginning of this school year that I did not give myself the mental space to even think about the lingering impacts of the pandemic.

Two years after its outbreak, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted student learning, affecting the most vulnerable learners the most and impacting our lower-income communities at a disproportionate rate.

The expectations of returning to normalcy seemed to have blurred the lines of reality quite a bit, and my students are struggling even more than when we were fully online. It feels as if my students this year are stuck frozen in time, and their ability to stay engaged is at an all-time low. I work at a Title I school and I am not confident that all of my student's needs are being met in terms of mental health and overall nutrition.

In order to keep my students engaged with the learning inside of my classroom, and in hopes of decreasing hallway traffic outside of passing periods, I am seeking funding for the following:

1. Mental Health Resources for Classroom Mindfulness Corner

2. Diverse/Multicultural Literature

3. Nutrition Cart & Hydration Station

4. Rewarding Incentives & Flexible Seating

5. Classroom Plant/Garden
