Nothing Like a Good Book...

My students need 15 copies of each of 7 books from the Bluford High series that they will enjoy. The Bluford Series are the perfect books for them.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ward's classroom raised $538

This project is fully funded

I teach special needs students in a large, urban, alternative high school; it is located in the county jail. The young men I teach are in need of reading materials, both for class and for leisure reading. They love being given a book and will treasure being given a brand new one!

My students spend long hours with literally nothing to do. They are somewhat behind in school and have great worries. Most are awaiting trial. Some spend months there in limbo. They need to be given the opportunities given every other high school student. They need a challenging, rigorous curriculum that will prepare them for a mainstream high school or college when they are released. Many of these young men came to jail loathing reading. Most of them now love it. It takes their mind off of things and brings them to other places vicariously. They need access to good books more than the average HS student.

We need books that are of high interest to young men without being too difficult to read. The Bluford Series is perfect for this. The kids love the books; they read them and improve their reading skills.

Thank you so much for considering my students. These books will be treasured, exchanged and used for years to come. Your donation will open so many doors for these young men who sometimes feel their future is bleak. Thank you again for considering us.
