Help me give my students new rugs for our newly remodeled classroom, where we will meet for storytime, classroom meetings and have a place to learn, read, and write, with social distancing in mind.
I teach curious and active little first graders at a school in Northern California. My students come from the neighborhood and are part of a close-knit community. Many of my students are second language learners. The kids at our school have not only had to deal with the pandemic, but our school is being remodeled and there has been a lot of moving around and construction to deal with.
As an educator, it has always been a priority for me to make school fun and engaging for all the kids, as well as give them a safe and beautiful environment to learn in!
This is especially important in today's stressful challenges in learning and teaching.
My Project
My classroom will be newly painted with new windows and doors. We have a tile floor and old, dirty rugs from past years. I would like to add one colorful new rug in front of the room for read-alouds, meeting time, and to allow extra space for kids to sit on the floor and learn. A second smaller rug will be used in my library nook, so kids can sit and enjoy a book, as well as have a quiet space to learn. With safe, clean, and distance learning of the upmost importance, new rugs will be a great addition, once we phase back into the classroom.
Having clean new rugs will be important for social distance learning and will also make the classroom more inviting and comfortable!
I also have small chairs and lap desks for the kids to use around the room, and sitting on a new rug will make it even nicer.
I myself love to sit on the rug and get to the kids' level to teach, read, and share information.
