My Students
"The whole truth and nothing but the truth!" That is what is needed when studying our rights under the US Constitution. The novel, Nothing But the Truth by Avi tells the story of a high school student who believes he is standing up for his rights, but what happens spirals out of control.
My classroom is a group of young African-Americans who live and go to school in a high poverty neighborhood.
They cannot wait until they can study the Constitution, and I believe that this novel would greatly benefit my class in better learning about their rights and responsibilities as citizens of this nation.
My Project
My class will begin studying the Constitution shortly and the novel, Nothing But the Truth is a great companion piece to the Constitution. This novel will truly inspire my class to not only look deeper at what rights they have, but the responsibilities that come with it.
It is so hard to find novels that my class will relate to, and this novel, Nothing But the Truth will blow their minds.
Understanding why our rights under the Constitution are so important is integral in creating responsible young adults.
