This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an eager and energetic group of Kindergarteners who love to learn! We are a Title I school located in Philadelphia. Our classroom is a safe haven where we can learn and grow together. We try our best and want so much to learn and make our teacher and families proud.
Many students are English Language Learners experiencing their first school days immersed in a foreign language.
As you can imagine, this can be a difficult transition for many. We learn and grow together every day!
My Project
Notebooks with primary lines would be a huge asset to our Kindergarten students. Regular lined paper is too small and does not allow the children to learn proper letter formation. Having these notebooks would mean the students would each have their own daily journal with a place to draw a picture and practice writing without the struggles regular lined paper can cause. The students would have the space to develop their writing skills without feeling confined. A notebook that can go between home and school for homework assignments with primary lines allows parents to further help their children develop their writing. Often, parents want to write for their child when the lines are so small and this deprives the child of the writing experience. These notebooks would allow the students to write on their own in their very own Kindergarten appropriate notebooks.
Unfortunately, many of the students' families opt to purchase the inexpensive, and always in the Back To School ads, notebooks made for bigger kids and adults.
These primary lined notebooks are more expensive and not as readily available. The pride and ownership each child can have in their own journal is a valuable asset on the road to becoming a good writer. I would love to present each child with their own special notebook on the first day of school setting them off in the right direction.
