My students attend a Title I school in Brooklyn, New York. They are a very diverse group of children from many cultures. My students are living in high poverty from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students are eager, enthusiastic and extremely interested whenever I introduce something new.
During speech sessions, my students are always asking, "Why, how come and what happens next?" Hands-on activities allow my students to learn, develop concepts, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills. They have the desire to learn and succeed, but they need the materials to achieve.
We need notebooks and pencils for all of their speech work. They will be able to take notes and complete speech activities. These notebooks will also allow my students to organize and attach all of their hand-outs inside their books. These notebooks will help my students keep track of their work and their achievements in the speech room. The new pencils will make it easier for them to complete worksheets, draw and answer questions. These donations will provide a notebooks and pencils for my students.
Notebooks and pencils will provide all of my students ownership of their work and help them become better learners.
My Project
My speech students are always excited to have new things because coming from low socio-economic households, the ability to be given something that is just theirs and brand new is so very exciting for each of them.
Getting new notebooks and pencils will make coming to speech and language therapy so much more fun!
Whether my student is a four-year old in Pre-K or a 10-year old in 5th grade, new supplies always bring a smile to their faces and having these notebooks and pencils will do that. I LOVE to put smiles on their faces and these supplies will definitely do it!
