My Students

I am a passionate kindergarten teacher in a high poverty school. My goal for my students is for them to learn in a safe and loving environment. My classroom needs to be warm and inviting, a place where the students look forward to coming.

My students are five- and six-year-old children.

My classroom is often their first time in school. The school I work in consists mostly of African-American and Hispanic students. We struggle with attendance at my school. Students often arrive late or not at all. In my classroom, students that come to school on time are rewarded with a clip up on our working hard chart. They love clip ups, because if you clip to the top, you receive a treasure box reward. My classroom needs to be fun and engaging, a place my students love to be!

My Project

Research suggests that family income is strongly correlated with academic achievement, it is my goal to make sure every student in my classroom has what is needed to succeed. Things as simple as a notebook for each student and expo markers would make a significant impact in my classroom. Expo's will be used during center and writing workshop. Students will be able to work both in math and phonics centers by using laminated centers. They will be able to record their answers in these notebooks. These notebooks are critical for success. The lines provide these young learns the visual spacing needed to learn how to form letters correctly. These two items will improve achievement. My students are from low-income families. Many are unable to buy the supplies needed. I am so grateful for generous and supportive donors who help my little ones achieve greatness. The students will be so excited to know they have their marker and notebook.
