My Students

The Fifth grade students at our school are constantly working toward being stewards of our watershed, empowered decision makers, historians and conscientious community members. We are located in south-central Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We are an active, outdoorsy and environmentally aware class. Being engaged with our "backyard" keeps us connected to our watershed.

Our daily goal is to explore learning through personal experience and modeling.

The Fifth graders of our school value the knowledge they acquire in this year of study, and some students reflect upon graduation that it was their favorite.

My Project

We want hardcover lab books with grid ruled paper rather than lined sheets for ease of creating charts, tables and graphs. We do science daily in our class, building knowledge for involved scientific investigations. These notebooks cost a bit more than composition notebooks, but I think they are worth the investment for connecting math and science standards. Students take pride in their Fifth grade collection of scientific experiences in a science based diary of reflections. In addition to the student lab books we want the movie and book by Dr. Seuss, The Lorax.

Who speaks for the trees?

If you are not failure with this children's book, it is about environmental desegregation. The main focus or our 5th grade science curriculum is studying our own Yellowstone Watershed. We look at how our world of water needs to be complex, cold, connected, clean and conserved. The message in The Lorax is clear and speaks to students in a fun meaningful way.
