My Project

School is a place for learning, but it is also much more than that. For some students, school is a place to get a full belly, a new t-shirt and pants, or a toothbrush.

This project is not for school supplies, it's for essential items needed in our daily lives; and it is the most important Donors Choose project I have created.

My goal as a teacher is to build rapport with my students from day one. It's not always easy to know that a student needs extra support outside of school. Building those relationships is key to helping students get these supplies in this project.

For clothes, our project has various sizes of shirts and pants on the list for a student who might need an extra outfit to wear. There are a handful of hijabs as well. In our school we have many Muslim girls who wear hijabs. I know these hijabs will be greatly appreciated by these young girls.

Along with the clothes, I included toothbrushes, hair brushes, and hair ties. These are all smaller hygiene products that some students might not have easy access to.

The last items on my list are snacks and the soft tissues. Snacks are important for when we go on vacations or long weekends. I am able to pack a gallon size bag with snacks and juice to help the kids who need snacks at home.
