My Project
I thought long and hard on whether I should write a grant for this after the Texas intruder took 21 lives in a school building. It's hard to ask donors for things that you are not sure you will ever use; however, there is the small chance we might.
Schools are supposed to be a place where students feel safe and as sad as it is, I don't think I can create a safe environment anymore without these supplies.
Schools are an easy target for evil people. I have one inward and one outward swinging door. The doors have glass windows that can be shot through to unlock each handle. My room is central in the building with no windows to know what is going on around us. If something were to happen, our best strategy would be to secure the room and wait. I have considered how I would move the heavy file cases I have to the doors in the possibility of such an event, but that manual labor makes noises and sounds and could attract an intruder. It also would take at least 10 minutes to secure my doors that way and there is no way to secure my outward swinging door. These door security supplies will make my class feel safe. We will be able to stand our ground quietly until the threat passes with these supplies if something were ever to happen.
