This year, another school merged with ours. This has caused more anxiety in my 2nd graders than usual because for over half of them, this is a much larger school with twice as many people as they were used to.
Second graders are wiggly.
Providing flexible seating will allow them to choose to sit in a more comfortable way, thus increasing focus and attention. Many of my students are from low-income families and they do not always come to school equipped with what they may need in order to have a successful day. Pencil pouches are roomy, quiet if dropped, and won't break. Headphones are necessary for my students because many of their school apps read to them. Wearing headphones blocks out noises and lets them hear and focus better.
My students come to school ready and eager to learn. I want them to be successful. Supplying them with these tools will support their independence and encourage them to feel more confidence in their learning.
My students are the Jackson Jaguars and our classroom is the Jaguar Den. My goal is to help them become more independent learners while at the same time, develop the ability to cooperatively work with others.
