This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach hospital/homebound students that, for medical reasons, can not attend a traditional school. When I meet one of my students, I never know what to expect. Their physical and emotional needs vary from child to child. But every time, without fail, I leave the hospital or home with a smile. These teaching conditions are not always easy. Many times the child is confined to a bed, and are tired, in pain, and struggling just to talk. Over the years I have learned that even the most medically fragile child wants to learn and have a meaningful teaching experience.
Every child, no matter their physical or mental condition, should receive the very best education we can provide for them.
It is my responsibility and goal as their teacher to provide them with the best opportunity to learn given their condition.
My Project
Through the purchase of this request my students will be able to participate in a virtual world. These students are confined to their home or the hospital and simple outings such as going to the zoo are impossible. Through the use of this technology driven learning they will be able to experience what you and I may take for granted. All of our students are ill and cannot attend the traditional school setting. We are here to help them through the transition time from their diagnosis throughout their treatment, to help them maintain some normalcy in their lives. Nothing about our classroom setting is normal, but it will definitely make it more entertaining and enjoyable for my students to use the iPad to learn while receiving chemotherapy than just a regular textbook.
