Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some books are rites of passage for all elementary school students. Decoding skills or reading comprehension should not be an obstacle for enjoying high-interest and age appropriate books.

My fifth grade students are a very enthusiastic group of readers.

They have been learning and practicing the skills to become life-long readers; they know how to select "just right" books based on their interests and reading abilities. Carrying present and future reading in their reading bags is part of their daily routine. Most of my students have been attending their neighborhood school since Pre-K; this has created a great sense of community among students, parents, and staff.

My Project

All my students will benefit from having the audio book format of high-interest and age appropriate books. Students with learning disabilities will be able to enjoy the same books their peers are reading; English Learners will be able to experience how stories come alive when read with fluency, speed, and prosody; other students will be able to listen to their favorite stories again and again.

Not all books are created equal, and neither are the students who read them.

Our students need a variety of reading materials and alternative formats in order to meet some of their special needs. All students should have access and be able to enjoy high-interest stories with complex characters and fascinating plots.
