I want to expand my classroom library in order to promote a growth mindset and emphasize effort, persistence, and goal-setting. It will also create a welcoming space where all students feel valued, regardless of background.
I want to use books, visuals, and lessons that represent diverse families, cultures, and identities.
I want to avoid assumptions about students' home life; show unconditional acceptance, and celebrate students’ home languages, traditions, and strengths.
I want to use inclusive classroom language (e.g., “families” instead of “parents”) to respect different household structures.
I want to highlight role models who reflect students’ cultures and backgrounds. These books will help students see the success of people from different situations and cultures.
