Normal, Is It Overrated? Analyzing Data, Finding Trends, Making Projections.
My students need their Texas Instrument graphing calculators to be up to date with the current technology. These TI 84 plus CE are a long awaited step toward modernizing the math classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. DeFronzo's classroom raised $960

My Students
Our School is a STEM focused charter school in the Sandy, Utah. We use Evidence Based Instructional Strategies (EBIS) to collaboratively teach and prepare students across the curriculum for life in the Twenty first Century.
Our school sees the need for technology based instruction as we know our world to be technology based.
While pencil and paper is still useful in a math class, computers and calculators are also a must.
We strive to offer students an education that spans Apple, Microsoft, android, and other systems. Students learn to write software (coding), Use OfficeSuite, and have even developed medical technologies and video games.
My Project
Students will analyze data from the recent Ebola Outbreak in South Africa using the TI 84 Plus CE to identify the best type of regression curve that follows the trends in the data. They will use these mathematical conclusions to make projections about future outbreaks of disease and numbers of people to be infected.
Students will then have a mock-up Nuclear Disaster.
They will use their calculators to analyze decay rates and make conjectures about when it will be safe to re-enter their classroom. They will support all of their conclusions with colorful graphs, export those graphs to their iPad, and final create an essay style report that shows what they have learned.
The exercise will combine elements of a science, language arts, and social studies class to give students a real world example of "how they will use math" as professionals in a diverse and challenging work environment.
