Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."- B. Franklin. The Nooks will make our chalkboard rooms look like super stars. My students will have an immediate gravitational pull towards them and have an inclination to explore. The folders will help them get organized

I have 24 AMAZING first graders who I try to provide an oasis and safe haven amidst one of the highest crime ridden neighborhoods in CA.

Our school is a Title 1 school, which means that all students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. They attend school everyday with an unwavering curiosity and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. My students are challenged with economic hardship, yet it does not deter their hopes and dreams for a brighter future. My students are like little sponges. They absorb all the academic information that is provided to them and are eager to know more. They enjoy hands on experiences, but many times I am not able to provide them with the tools for greater learning encounters because of the lack of funds our school has undergone. This technology would help my students become explorers of information, not available at our school.

My Project

Technology is an important aspect of today's thriving culture. Having two HD Nooks in my classroom, would dramatically enhance my lessons of the Civil Rights Movement and other significant events. It would provide a real-life, hands-on experience and motivate students to make connections and apply what they would only encounter through limited classroom textbooks. I'm competing in a world full of video games and colorful dramatic television shows, adding HD Nooks to my instruction, would help me create engaging, student-centered, interactive lessons to bring the subject of Civil Rights to life. As they researched, reading becomes fun and inviting. The HD Nooks will help my students explore and navigate websites about famous leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. The folders will help them keep all of the information printed and written organized and categorized. The culminating project will be a poster presentation of their selected Civil Rights Leader.

Not only do I want my students to be able to leave first grade having a good understanding of the Civil Rights Movement, but having technology on hand is part of 21st century learning.

It's a shame when students are left out because of economic hardships. PLEASE help me make learning equitable and fun by getting organized with pocket folders and exploring with HD Nooks. Let's start learning about the Civil Rights in an exciting and engaging way with the use of HD Nooks. Nooks+Civil Rights=Fun!!
