Hockey. Ice, floor, field...it doesn't matter. They all use very hard, very plastic, sticks. This is ok for my older students but my littles are struggling. This is the first time in 25 years that I am even attempting hockey for this reason. I wanted to give my littles a fun way to play but to also be safe.
I started to think about equipment that will be safe, sturdy and durable.
POOL NOODLES! They are amazing for this exact purpose and safe for the Kindergartners and first graders to use.
I plan to give them these noodles to learn how to hold the "stick" correctly and begin to control the ball or puck throughout the space. Once they have mastered this with the noodle, they can move up in their grades and begin to use the plastic hockey stick.
