This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of this school year my students will be able to read at or above grade level, evaluate nonfiction texts, and use resource materials effectively.

The fourth grade students at our school are a diverse bunch.

While not all of the students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, most do. All share a common love of learning more about the world around them. They are curious about the natural world around them. They are imaginative and have the potential to become life long learners and leaders.

My Project

Nonfiction text has become rare in homes. As newspapers and magazines have become easily available on-line through devices, the opportunities for students to engage directly with nonfiction text have declined. This subscription to a weekly Scholastic News magazine designed with their interests in mind will help engage students with nonfiction texts and improve their reading abilities. The notebook dictionaries will help students improve their vocabulary during our word study routine. Additionally, the dictionaries will provide support to the students while reading independently.

Our school teaches students that we are a community that supports each other.

Donating to this project will show students that we are a part of a larger community that also supports its members.
