The library at North Elementary is a busy place. Students enjoy coming to the library to check out books, use technology, and participate in lessons. I want to make the library a comfortable and inviting place where students will catch the joy of reading.
North Elementary is a Title 1 school in the piedmont of North Carolina.
My school has approximately 205 students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. North Elementary students are a diverse popluation with many backgrounds. We are the Eagles and strive for excellence.
The students of North Elementary do not have a lot of books in their homes. The library books that they are able to check out help fill that gap.
They enjoy looking at books and are excited when they can find information about a topic that interests them.
My Project
These nonfiction books will help support the curriculum that is being taught. Students will be able to read independently about those topics that they are studying in their classroom.
Students are always enthusiastic when they can find a library book that connects to classroom activities.
They are eager to show them off to the teachers. This also helps the teachers know what is available in the library that they could possibly use to enrich the activities they are currently planning.
I will also be able to use these books when teaching research to our students. The more sources available the better!
