Help me give my students an introduction to nonfiction text through the eyes of Nya and Salva in "A Long Walk to Water". This true story will touch their hearts and meet our standards!
This school year I moved from 7th grade into 6th grade. My content partner and I are building our curriculum from the ground up. Thus far we've used short stories, articles and a great book called "Restart". Now what we need is a nonfiction book.
A Long Walk to Water is about the struggle of water in Sudan, which students may not know much about.
This text will allow them to step outside of their comfort zones and join the characters through good and tough times. They'll see what it's like across the world where water is a privilege not a right. Something they most likely have never thought of before.
I live in the rural area of Boyd County, KY but you more than likely have heard of the city of Ashland instead. We're all one big area. We need resources in the classroom to help keep up with current events. Our school provides supplies to students and I use my classroom money to stock even more. With building a curriculum and getting new resources, I do not currently have the funds to buy these books.
These books will tremendously help my students be able to read nonfiction and at the same time even enjoy. They deserve the chance to read a beautifully written story. This is why I need YOUR help. Please consider donating. Every penny helps!
