This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day they get ESL service either in their class or in my office. They work in a small group of 3 or 4 depends on their level. After we implemented the Common Core Standards, I have been using a lot of nonfiction into my instruction and I am really challenged by their weak comprehension skills.

My students are autistic and their learning abilities and styles are unique.

Thus I need to differentiate my instruction and I found that it is hard to meet their individual needs for each and every lesson. I need more resources such as the nonfiction book and cards that are differentiated so I can provide better instruction to my students.

My Project

My students need a lot of support to develop their reading comprehension skills especially with nonfiction books such as TIME for Kids, Nonfiction Reading Comprehension cards, and Fiction and Nonfiction Comprehension Activities. They will use the nonfiction books and cards during my instruction. Since the books are differentiated, my instruction will be more individualized and my students will be more engaged. I can use the nonfiction cards every week with the early learners to improve their reading comprehension skills and I can take data more effectively to track their progress.

These books and cards will help my students tremendously.

I don't want to rely on Internet sources to teach them. All students need to have authentic resources to learn in science and social studies. Also the Time for Kids will help my students to get connection with the real world and learn what is happening.
