My Project

We are a school of readers that just can't get enough nonfiction. Our students are devouring the books we have and demanding more! Their interests and distresses reflect the different cultures, backgrounds, and identities within our community. These kids are motivated not only to educate themselves, but to help educate and lead our community as well -- to be a force of positive change.

This project would continue our Junior Library Guild subscriptions -- monthly shipments of new nonfiction books, many of which go on to become state and national book award nominees.

These subscriptions further our efforts to update our nonfiction selections (particularly animals, geography and science) and to increase the diverse character representation within our collection.

We are fortunate in that our library is a roomy, welcoming space with a growing, exciting collection in which to pursue our fascinations as well as our worries, to read about ourselves and to read about those that are different. We believe it is imperative that the library be an embracing space full of materials that encompass our different interests as well as stories that reflect our diverse lives.
