Nonfiction Connections: YA Memoirs for Our Classroom Library
Help me give my students some high-interest, nonfiction choice books to read. Each of these books show unique lives and perspectives and teach valuable lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
For the past several years, I have been building my classroom library slowly but surely. Now, I have a wonderful collection of fiction texts for students to choose from during their independent reading time; however, for my students who prefer nonfiction, my collection is sorely lacking. These books are a diverse group of nonfiction memoirs that will help students make connections between themselves and others, building empathy and a sense of interconnectedness. These titles will be a much needed addition to my classroom library.
This project will provide students with engaging, new, nonfiction books to choose from as they explore the unique perspectives and conficts discussed in each book.
These books cover a wide range of experiences and themes that illustrate the human condition: friendship, resilience, justice, and dedication.
