My Students

I love my students because they inspire me to be the best teacher I can be. They help me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. They are a spirited, creative and loving bunch of kiddos.

My students love to push themselves.

They love a challenge. They need activities that foster their love of learning and keep them engaged!

I am blessed to work with these kids each day. They make me happy to come to work, and every day holds a new adventure for us to discover!

My Project

Graphic novels have increased in popularity, and my students find them engaging and fun to read. This type of novel can provide my students with opportunities for reading comprehension and critical thinking just as traditional novels do. To be honest, it took me a while to jump on the graphic novel train! As a reading teacher, I was not sure they were "real books." However, as I watch my students read these books from the school library, I realize the point is they are reading and they like it! Even the more reluctant readers are willing to pick up a graphic novel.

With these graphic novels, my students will be able to choose from a variety of titles they find interesting.

I have chosen these books specifically after watching the kids at a recent book fair. Both the boys and the girls gravitated toward the graphic novels. The best way to increase reading fluency and comprehension is to read more, and these books will help my students continue to progress.

My students already have a high interest in independent reading, and this project will give them an opportunity to read a fun and exciting genre. These graphic novels are age-appropriate, engaging and an innovative way for students of all skill levels to read. They will be so excited if the graphic novels end up on the shelves of our classroom!
