Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I'll understand." --Chinese proverb
My students are amazing, sweet, and eager to learn.
They are inquisitive and have so much energy. Each of my students comes from a very low socio-economic background. We have the highest rate of ELL's (English Language Learners) in the state and a high rate of special education students. Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch (and dinner if the student stays for the after-school program).
My Project
My students love, love, love anything non-fiction, especially science! Each of them love to read non-fiction articles, magazines, and books. This year we had TIME for Kids; but I saw and have heard wonderful things about Scholastic, so next school year I want my students to have access to Scholastic News. Scholastic News aligns with the Common Core standards, and we can use it for literacy, math, and--most of all--science!
Your help will allow my students to have access to a non-fiction science magazine for the whole school year!
Each of them will have their own copy to be able to use in the classroom and then take it home to continue using and reading it at home.
