My Students
We are a Title I school, and many of our students face financial hardships. Our school is home to many students from several local housing projects, and many of our students face hunger every day. Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds with a wide variety of ethnicities represented.
Despite the struggles that many of our students face at home, they come to school ready to learn.
We have many English Language Learners, a good Special Education program, and teachers that work hard to foster a sense of school community and inclusiveness. Our classroom is a English Language Learner inclusion classroom. Our students are wonderful elementary students that work hard to be the best that they can be.
My Project
Well-written and engaging non-fiction is the key to helping spark my students’ interest in a variety of topics, and to help them become more confident readers and learners. My students struggle with reading and comprehending non-fiction, and making connections to the world around them. These magazines will provide them with consistent practice and up-to-date materials.
These materials will broaden their understanding of scientific and historical concepts, strengthen their nonfiction reading skills, and entice them to continue to grow their love of learning.
In today’s world, it is important that they are able to learn to read and think critically from a variety of sources.
