Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Fourth-grader (Noun) \fȯrth grā-dər\ - Someone who is a mathematician, reader, writer, artist, scientist, dancer, leader, explorer, and friend. - Someone who needs access to technology, high-quality books and an inclusive place to learn.
My fourth graders are curious and they try hard--really hard.
They love to read, write, explore, and find answers to questions. Did you know that they are also bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate? They speak, read, and write in two languages, English and Spanish. That also means that during the school day, they learn in both languages.
My Project
This project aims to give EVERY student in my classroom access to highly engaging, non-fiction, grade level text. We, as a classroom community, will engage in reading, listening and having deep conversations. The books on this project will be used in conjunction to a fiction book (also on grade level) - giving students plenty of opportunities to compare and contrast events on both genres.
"For some of our students, reading aloud may be the only way they will have the opportunity to experience and notice various writing styles, author's craft, a wide range of genres, and information they might not read on their own, and to reflect on what a particular books means for them"
-Regie Routman, Foreword to In Defense of Read-Aloud by Steven L. Layne
