Non-Fiction Books to Inspire Student Interest

My Students

I have a diverse group of students who love to explore and read about non-fiction topics. During our daily D.E.A.R time students rush to the non-fiction section of the library and are fascinated by the topics they are reading about. I love having the students rush to tell me a new fact they learned!

My students are a great bunch of kids!

They all have individual interests that I love hearing about. They are encouraged to share their experiences and what they do when they are not in school with their classmates so that students can become familiar with different types of experiences. My students love "teaching" their classmates about the different adventures they've been on.

My Project

Non-fiction reading is a huge concept being taught in Third Grade. This set of encyclopedias will encourage students to explore non-fiction topics that interest them. Students will use this set of encyclopedias to research topics and gain a deeper understanding. At the beginning of the school year, students will use the encyclopedias to look for non-fiction text features and understand why they are important when researching a topic. This skill will be utilized throughout the year for projects completed about the continents that presented to parents in June.

This set of encyclopedias will give students the opportunity to explore topics that are current and have an impact on their lives.

I am hoping that by exposing them to a variety of non-fiction topics it will create an appreciation for life long non-fiction reading.
